20+ years ago, Killer Shrimp was a mini chain with several intimate locations dishing out a small menu of items, mostly variations of fresh shrimp in their signature broth, a rich, savory and slightly spicy brew you could spend hours lapping up with French bread. For whatever reasons, the multiple locations closed and the business consolidated into a larger space in Marina Del Rey. With a bigger kitchen, the menu expanded and is now quite varied. Yes, their original shrimp in broth remains the centerpiece, and what many people come specifically to order; but they've got plenty of appetizers, salads and entrees to satisfy just about anyone, plus a full bar and a good selection of liquor at very reasonable prices. Our most recent visit was on New Year's Eve, prior to attending a special event in their new, upstairs speakeasy, Killer Yacht Club (separate review). My wife ordered the Original Shrimp, which is just as it always was: tasty, spicy and addictive. The shrimp were fresh and good-sized, and the portion was ample. In days gone by, each of us would have put away a whole order, but our older bellies don't have quite as much room, and there was a good deal left over, which would have been brought home if we were not going to the other event. Since I knew I'd be able to horn in on some of my wife's shrimp in broth, I ordered the Crab Cake Stuffed Shrimp: 3 nice-sized shrimp, each topped with a dollop of their house crab cake mix and baked. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the crab cake stuffing was very tasty. These were served with drawn butter, but that didn't add much to the already well-seasoned shrimp, so I opted for a touch of their house-branded hot sauce, and that was the perfect topper. In addition to the stuffed shrimp, I ordered the Wedge Salad, which is a very creative take on the steakhouse staple. The Killer Shrimp version comes with half a head of iceberg lettuce topped by grilled green onion, baby tomato, roasted garlic, crispy prosciutto, generously sized pieces of bleu cheese and a creamy bleu cheese dressing. It was a large salad built with very fresh ingredients, but the surprise star was the roasted whole cloves of garlic, which really added great depth of flavor. The one drawback to the experience was the service. Yes, this was New Year's Eve, but this was not a special event crowd. It was busy, but not packed as I've seen the place many times before... yet the service was harried and inattentive. Our cocktail order was pretty standard, but both of our drinks were made incorrectly and had to be sent back. The real issue was the men's room, which was a shambles -- like really sopping wet, and without toilet paper in the stall. Since this was still at the beginning of the evening, one has to wonder why the restrooms weren't serviced properly before the dinner crowd arrived. Again, despite being New Year's Eve, the restaurant was not overwhelmed with guests. The service aside, the food was top quality and very enjoyable, so we'll be coming back for sure.

Killer Shrimp in Marina Del Rey is an absolute must-visit for seafood lovers! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a casual yet vibrant atmosphere that sets the tone for a great dining experience. The highlight of the menu, of course, is their famous Killer Shrimp - a flavorful, aromatic, and slightly spicy shrimp dish that is nothing short of addictive. The shrimp is cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, soaking in a rich, bold broth that you'll want to dip everything in. Their portions are generous, so come hungry! For those who might not be a fan of shrimp, the menu offers other non-seafood options, as well as delicious sides like garlic bread and fries. The clam chowder is also a must-try, creamy with just the right amount of flavor and was one of my favorites! The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure your dining experience is seamless. The outdoor seating area offers a lovely view, especially during sunset, and adds to the overall relaxed yet chic vibe. Killer Shrimp is a great spot for a casual date night, group outing, or just a solo seafood indulgence. If you're in the Marina Del Rey area, don't miss this local gem!

I treated a friend here today for her birthday, and we had a great time! Our server was extremely friendly, and most importantly, PATIENT! We needed lots of time to decide what we wanted to eat. There are so many options! The server was also attentive, checking in constantly. The ambiance was very relaxed and soothing, although there's a separate room with TVs that's more upbeat and social if you're looking for a more social vibe or want to catch a game! As for the food, it was great! We started with the popcorn shrimp and some mussels, which were both delectable! I appreciate that the "popcorn" shrimp are a good size, versus the typical popcorn shrimp that's mostly batter. They were perfectly seasoned. We got crabcakes, which were delicious, as well as the lobster bisque! I loved the lobster bisque, but did wish there were some chunks of lobster. I definitely would return to try some of the main killer shrimp staples, but wasn't in the mood for a mess!

This is a yummy and pleasant beach city seafood spot. The broth really is signature and delicious. It's a must try. I'm not sure it's quite worth the price. I did not have to wait for a seat. I asked for a table on the patio but none was available. The hostess sat me by a window looking out of the patio which was a decent compromise consider there's usually a waitlist.

I always enjoy the original killer shrimp at Killer Shrimp. Along with the great bowl of bread they provide. The other items I have tried are not quite as tasty, but when I'm in the mood for the shrimp, I'm in the mood! The service has unfortunately fell off. Our waitress this last event was very friendly and kind especially to my daughter, but from the time we sat down to the server coming and getting us drinks took over 10 minutes. Maybe they were busy, but not busy enough to ignore a table for that long. The ambiance is nice enough and my daughter always enjoys the fish tank, but it's definitely not what it use to be.

We came here for the after-hours festivities that had the weekly live band performing. Expect a cover when you come, but nothing to break the wallet. Once we got inside the bartender and the live music made up for it. The residential band is a crowd favorite and they dropped some serious hits that the crowd up on their feet groovin. The place isn't too big so when they really put in work on vocals, the sound can be a bit overwhelming, but it still a great vibe. As I made my way to the bathroom, that's when I realized Killer Shrimp was a restaurant so I definitely would come back to dine as I was looking at the menu and they had some items worth wanting to try.
